To conclude the compilation in style Berlin Undercover released on the Sound of Berlin label, BB Deng offers us a delightfully fresh interpretation of New Order ‘s famous 1986 synth-pop song , ” Bizarre Love Triangle “. In her version, BB Deng adds a personal touch, abandoning Peter Hook ‘s best moment for an offbeat Hi-NRG-style bass line. She enriches the melody to the ninth degree and, much to our surprise, even grabs the microphone.
Deng’s lush musical tribute would be perfectly at home on a Best of Eurodisco compilation, between tracks such as “You’re My Heart, You’re My Soul” and “Voyage Voyage”. This cover has nothing to envy the versions of Desire (Johnny Jewel) and Sugar for Sugar (Scarlett Johansson).
BB Deng: Creativity in motion
BB Deng is a DJ, music producer and label owner born in Hong Kong and raised in Taiwan. She began her musical career playing in rock/electro punk bands and working as a resident DJ in Taipei clubs. She later moved to Beijing to study film and has become one of China’s most active electronic music artists over the years.
In Beijing, BB Deng opened her own club, “The Boat”, and has organized countless music and art events and festivals in China over the past decade. She is also a promoter and booker, bridging the gap between East and West. Since 2015, BB Deng has begun touring festivals and clubs around the world, moving from Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China to Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Croatia, Austria, Finland, Poland and Spain, to name but a few.
In the same year, BB Deng signed a partnership with British electronic music equipment label Novation as a Taiwanese ambassador to China, and released her work on international labels over the following year. Since 2018, BB Deng has been living in Berlin, where she continues to be very active on the music scene. In 2022, she gave birth to her new event/label, Ego Riot.
