Cette publication est également disponible en : French

When it comes to online music production courses, SEEDJ stands out. Recently, I had the opportunity to test their platform by taking the Hard Techno DJ/Producer bundle, and more specifically, the courses by Basswell,, who needs no introduction for fans of hard trance.

🎧 Discovering SEEDJ

The platform SEEDJ offers a wide range of tutorials and masterclasses from well-known artists in the techno and hard music scenes. What makes SEEDJ unique is its commitment to combining education, career development, and music culture all in one place.

Among the artists featured, you’ll find names like:

And of course, Basswell

Nico Moreno

Shlømo

Cynthia Spiering

Blicz

👀 Learning from Basswell

The course led by Basswell focuses on hard trance music production and is divided into several chapters, which cover:

  • Building a track from scratch
  • Kick/bass layering and sound design
  • Arrangement and transitions
  • Effects and automation
  • Final mixing/mastering techniques

All the lessons are recorded in French (subtitled in English and other languages) and are presented in a clear, structured, and immersive way. Basswell explains every creative decision and technical manipulation, which makes it perfect for beginners and intermediate producers.

🎹 Building a Hard Trance Track – Basswell’s Method

Tempo: 142 BPM

🔁 Step 1: The Melody

He starts with a simple but effective melody using the Synth1 VST, then develops an acid bassline by sampling a single note and shaping it to add punch, depth, and bounce.

💡 Pro tip: don’t throw in a full kick right away — let the acid breathe first. Start with the kick, then bring in the bassline for a bounce effect that hits hard on the dancefloor.

🥁 Step 2: The Kick & Groove

The kick sets the tone. Basswell builds it manually, then adds the drum elements before looping back to the melody.

👉 Key advice: don’t chase complexity. The sweet spot lies between simplicity and originality — that’s where the magic happens.

🧪 Step 3: Sound Design & FX

  • EQ (boosting highs, filtering lows)
  • Reverb & delay
  • Well-placed mini-breaks
  • Build-ups using rising claps and snares
  • A massive riser… then a drop with a fake-out kick 😈

You even get a proper track structure, with breathing moments, smart use of filters, and a re-drop featuring a twisted lead. It’s precise, methodical, and hits hard.

🔥 Basswell’s Vision: Honest, Motivating, and No Bullsh*t

What I really liked is that Basswell keeps it real. No fluff, no sugarcoating:

🎤 “Don’t copy what works. Get inspired, sure — but creating under pressure or just hoping to blow up doesn’t work in the long run.”

His advice?

Produce with passion.

Don’t give up.

Work on self-confidence.

And most importantly:

🎯 “A producer should know how to DJ, and a DJ should learn to produce.”

There’s no magic trick — just intention, consistency, and a lot of grind.
